Troubleshooting - Heated Lens 5839-111Updated 3 months ago
The heated feature of your Oculus headlight is powered on when the shared DRL Halo. (Ignition)
You'll notice an amber indicator light on the headlight that lets you know the heating element is working. After 1 minute, it will turn off due to temperature regulation. The light and the heating element will turn back on when it senses the temperature goes below freezing; this is automatic.
You've reported burn marks/melting:
Unfortunately, there's no troubleshooting that can be done. Please contact customer service.
You've mentioned that the heating element is not turning on:
There are only two factors that need to exist for the temperature sensor to switch the heater into the on position:
1. There needs to be a hard freeze sensed so the temperature needs to be below 28 degrees Fahrenheit. If the sensor is not mounted on the grill, it is likely getting heat from the engine or the radiator and it will not turn on. That is why the position of the sensor mounting is very important.
2. The headlights needs to be in the ON position. The power for the heater comes from the headlight so if the headlight is switched off, the heater will not turn on.
- So, if both conditions exist where the temperature is below 28 degrees Fahrenheit and the headlight switch is on with the temperature sensor in a position that is oriented to the ambient air temperature, then the heater should turn on. This is indicated by the yellow light at the base of the headlight.
Note on Updated Kits with External Temperature Sensor:
In the updated kits, we've included an external temperature sensor. The most ideal spot to mount this would be somewhere on your grill, but we understand that some customers may prefer it not to be visible. Ideally, this should be mounted in a spot where there is the least amount of engine heat.
Labeling Error on Some Lamps:
You might find that some lamps arrive with a label on the DRL cable that says "Turn Signal." This was a labeling error. It is, in fact, the halo/DRL power cable.
